Hello, I discovered about an hour ago that the bbpress software we’ve been using for this forum has had a major revision.

The good news is that it is totally integrated with WordPress. This solves the nuisance we’ve had in the past with user ids and logins, where they weren’t consistent in practice between WordPress and BBPress. (This is just one of those things that never worked the way it was supposed to, and there’s a similar problem with the photo gallery.)

One other thing: if you’re using RSS, the RSS feed for all forums is at http://vbc.bc.ca/forums/feed , so if anybody acted on my suggestion to use a tool like twitterfeed to convert form postings to tweets, you have to make the appropriate change. Note also that the RSS feed for articles on the site other than forum postings is different: http://vbc.bc.ca/feed

The bad news is, there wasn’t a migration path between the old and new versions. However, there were only five postings over the past two months, and one of those was about an event that happened already.

I copied over three postings by cutting and pasting. All of the old forum postings are still on a hard disk, so if there are any postings of historical importance, just let me know, and I’ll copy those over, too. Just need a topic and an approximate date.

Here’s an amendment: it IS possible to bring over all the postings from the old forum. Is this worth doing? Need direction on this.
