Sunday Jan 24: Hathaway Birthday Ride (Leisure)

This ride will run, rain or shine! Weather forecast at this time is for showers. Bring your rain gear.
Come and raise a glass of cheer to the memory of one of the VBC’s main benefactors, John Hathaway.
You can read about John’s lifeHERE.
The Ride: This ride will take us from the Olympic Village and eventually end at for lunch at the newly opened Milltown Bar & Grill at the also newly opened Milltown Marina in Marpole. Actually, the place is officially in Richmond, but it suffers from a rare case of Pt. Roberts syndrome (those geographically challenged can keep wondering).
The plan is to south on Heather, to West 10th Ave, and make our way around UBC to Milltown Pub. However, how we reach the pub will mostly depend on the current conditions – we might take a longer route if it’s really nice, or shorten it if it’s crappy.
Meet: At Terra Breads at the Olympic Village at 10:30am
Distance: about 30 km.
Ride coordinator: Cam S.
Thanks to all who came out and participated in this ride. Even though it was raining, we still had a good turn out.
Unfortunately we lost a few riders along the way. Chris had a mechanical issue right from the start, and decided to drop out. Simon got a flat along the way, and dropped out also, because it could not be fixed.
That left six of us at Milltown Pub to toast John Hathaway, and enjoy a hot meal.
The highlight of the ride for me… was getting buzzed by the bald eagle, while we were on the road to Milltown Marina.
