Sunday July 2 – Lummi Island – Long Medium Ride
Update June 5: When you RSVP, please indicate if you have space in your car for another person and their bike. Enjoy good company, staying awake, and gas money in return.Â
Update June 2: Please note date change. How better to celebrate Canada Day weekend than to leave the country! Â
Whatcom County is a pleasure to ride in especially in summer. This ride takes us to the Lummi Reservation located between Ferndale and Bellingham. Note, there is no place to buy a decent lunch on this ride, so pack a sandwich or three. If water and food are scarce, I may stop in Ferndale. Best suited for a road bike, as route is paved, and the ride is long (110km). Make sure your bike is in good working order, and that you’ve packed tools for basic repairs. A ferry ride to Lummi Island will require $7US for a round trip fare. This is a day tour, open to VBC members only. The ride goes only in good weather. Don’t forget your Nexus or passport; if you do, it’ll be a fast ride…right back to your car.
Meet: 8AM at Peace Arch Park parking lot. Exit on Beach Rd, just before the border, to reach the parking lot

12 riders took on this beast of a ride and came out unscathed, though I can’t say the same for the bikes: glass and debris littering the shoulder was responsible for 4 flats. On a positive note, the group spent 9 hours together, and noone pulled out a shiv. Huzzah! Note to self: raise standards/expectations for group dynamics. In truth, the weather was perfect, and we covered a lot of countryside and ocean views. Big thanks to Gwyn for driving a 4-person carpool so others could also attend the ride.
