Sunday August 6 – Doughnut Escargot Ride

July 30 Update: Note new meeting time.
Attention all foodies! No longer just the territory of Homer Simpson, diners, and police stereotypes, doughnuts are now elevated, bougie, and artisanal. This ride explores 3 of the doughnut shops around the city. Stomach and pannier capacity are more important than speed on this ride, which may top out at 15km/hr. The total distance doesn´t break double digits. Again, leaving a snail-like trail of saliva is preferable to flames, so leave the pizza-cutters at home, unless they can be used to divide doughnuts. Bring a reliable bike, tools for fixing flats, and maybe your insulin pen.
Meet: 8AM 9AM at 2902 Main St at 13th Ave, 49 Parallel Coffee

7 of us went on this doughnut bender, and barely lived to tell about it. I was pretty much done after the 2nd doughnut place, but we persevered and saved the densest doughnuts for the last. My heart rate didn’t exceed 90, but my blood glucose probably did. I’m pleasantly surprised we got the number of riders we did, proving that people love their refined sugar products. To counteract the buzz, some of us rode to the top of UBC, though Cypress Mountain might have been more apt.
