Sunday September 15- Silver Lake – Medium
There’s been no day rides in the US this year! Let’s remedy that.
The bridge is still there, as are the pastoral backroads and farms of Washington State. A shorter version, this ride is 82km in keeping with the shorter days. Make sure you bring your passport/Nexus card, a bike in good repair, some tools/spares that you know how to use, US dollars/credit card, health insurance, and enough snacks/water. There is climbing, but easy grades or short, steep spurts. There are nail-biting sections with heavy traffic and minimal shoulder. Pace will be in the low to mid 20kms/hr. It’s been a while since I last did this ride, so expect wayfinding issues. If the group wants, we could have lunch at North Fork Brewery, otherwise there’s stores along the way. This ride is open to VBC members in good standing-if your membership is out of date, bring money and signed waiver to the start of the ride. Ride is weather-dependent. Keep an eye on the website the night before for a cancellation. If you don’t see one, consider the ride a go.
If you can take others in a carpool or need a ride, please let Teresa know in your RSVP.
Many thanks to Justin for the route.

Meet: 930AM at the Tim Hortons near Sumas/Huntington border crossing. Address is 1255 Sumas Way, Abbotsford, BC V2S 8H2
This ride ranks among the most beautiful rides in Whatcom County. In addition to the changing fall colours, there was lots of wind to add to the drama. So nice to see all the usual riders again, totalling 6. Great company and food at the North Fork brewery/beer museum.

Has it been 5 years since I last did this ride?! Criminal. Three others joined me which made for good company. Not much has changed, including the narrow shoulder on Mt Baker Hwy, pizza at North Fork Brewery, and pastoral views along the way. The weather was warm with a hint of fall. Note to future self: Marshall Hill Rd is sliding away, so maybe heed the road closure. Future rides may include a detour to Mosquito Lake to make this a more substantial-if hilly-way to earn your pizza (https://ridewithgps.com/routes/48483391). Avoid this detour during hunting season.
