Saturday October 15-Pitt and Alouette River Trails- Medium

In order to inject some novelty in my life and yours, this ride enters bird habitat country where fair is fowl and fowl is fair. Big mountain and river views can be appreciated from Pitt Meadow’s many dykes and trails. Last year, it was overcast with limited views, so this is an attempt to improve on that. This ride is about half paved, half hard-packed gravel so consider carefully your tire size as there is potentially 25+km of vibration on crushed stone. The ride is flat with some climbs at the end, and the opportunity to check out Humble Roots Cafe and Golden Ears Cheesecrafters for goodies. Make sure you bring a bike in good working order, tools for basic repairs, a mask if you plan to go into any establishments, and enough water/snacks as there are no places to buy until the 44km mark. There are portapotties at the start. This ride only goes in good weather; keep an eye on the website the night before.

Five of us ventured out to enjoy the Pitt River from the dyke trails. We rode through a wedding, complete with chairs on one side of the trail and the groom/justice of the peace on the other, dressed in kilts. The only thing missing was the bagpipes. Lots of birds in and around the marsh. Nice rest break at the coffee shop. As expected, the sunny weather afforded spectacular views, but I’ll let you decide from the photos below. Thanks to David for contributing some. The dry conditions meant no slogging through muddy ruts, but there were still bumpy sections that required some bike handling skills.
